LiDAR Aerial Survey
We are conducting an aerial LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) survey of our electricity network in April 2025.

MEDIA RELEASE
Horizon Networks is conducting an aerial LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) survey of its electricity network in April 2025.
This initiative is part of Horizon Networks’ commitment to using advanced technology to improve safety, reliability, and efficiency across our electricity network.
This survey will help identify potential risks, such as vegetation encroachment, before they cause power outages or safety hazards.
The survey will cover our entire network across the Eastern Bay of Plenty, from Pikowai to Cape Runaway in the west and from Whakatāne to Ruatāhuna in the south. It will be conducted by Preformed Line Products (PLP), a specialist in aerial surveying. The survey will not cause any outages, and your power supply will remain unaffected.
Throughout April, residents of the Eastern Bay of Plenty may notice low-flying helicopters mounted with laser sensors carrying out the survey. Flights will comply with New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations and privacy guidelines. Survey times will be brief—typically 5-10 minutes in rural areas and 10-15 minutes in urban areas—with minimal noise.
We respect your privacy and ensure that any data collected during these inspections is handled in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020. The data is securely processed within Horizon Networks and used exclusively for the management of our assets. For further details, please visit our website.
Horizon Networks will provide regular updates on Facebook advising when we will be conducting the LiDAR aerial survey by region.
